About Us
Photo: Marty, Doreen, and Jon De Lange (2024).
In 2015, Jon De Lange and his parents, Martin and Doreen De Lange, planted their first hazelnut orchard in Blaine, Washington. Over 3 months time, Doreen and Jon planted over 6000 trees on 30 acres. Although it seemed like a risky endeavor to some, as long time farmers, they knew that it was not a risk, but an investment in their future.
Now 10 years later, that single orchard has grown to include 100 acres of hazelnut trees. Marty, son of Doreen and brother to Jon, joined Washington Hazelnut in 2021. Together, the family farms 4 orchards with 20,000 trees in Whatcom County.
In the winter of 2023, the brothers added a small processing facilty and started roasting and flavoring hazelnuts themselves. They create all the recipes (with help from family and friends as taste testers!), including 6 regular flavors, 5 seasonal flavors, and 4 hazelnut spreads! They now spend the sunny days in the orchards, and the rainy days in the Nut Shack, packing and processing hazelnuts!
